As part of my ongoing research, I write software tools to support the operation of an effective SAS data warehouse and application environment. I use these on projects to speed delivery and improve the finished work.

I plan to make some of these tools available as "shareware" through this site; meantime here is some background.

Tool: Code Coloriser
For general development, particularly in SCL and Macro code, I like to maintain a consistent use of colour in programs - and though the Build editor supports colour, programmers are unlikely to be consistent in how they use it! And whilst the Version 8 Enhanced Editor offers some automatic code colouring, the results are not saved. This makes it incompatible with programmer-defined colouring (such as marking new code being tested, or suspect code being debugged).

I have therefore written a code coloriser to apply standardised colour rules to SCL or SOURCE code. This improves readability, and can even help find syntax errors such as un-terminated comments or un-matched quotes. This tool will soon be offered here as 'shareware' - in the meantime, email me if you are interested in try-before-you-buy.
